What do you guys think of attempting to back out the entire schematic for the B13/S13 ecu? This is something that I think would be a great accomplishment and really help crack this ecu completley. Buuuuuuut, its a really really big task. I've done little bits and pieces as I've needed it, but to get the whole thing really is a job for a group. I figure if at least 5 people work on this it won't take very long to get it all done. And is there really a better way to spend an evening than hunched over an ecu staring at itty bitty pieces trying to read faint traces of writing? Combining all the documentation on the other hand...
So if your intrested, have a little freetime, I have a proposal:
-You must have a passing familiarty of circuits. Nothing big, if you've assembled a consult board or had any sort of classes thats plenty. Alternativley, if you don't know what the symbol for a resistor is but are willing to learn a little and can take very well documented drawings/notes, thats ok too. Having a background in electronics would be ideal, but the ecu is very well labeled, and just copying all the labels verbatim will work just fine.
-You must own a multimeter with a short (continuity) test. The kind where it beeps if you touch the leads together.
-You must also own a soldering iron, but it doesn't have to be anything fancy. The circuit boards are coated with a non-conductive (makes doing the beep thing hard) moisture barrier (think thin plastic layer) that melts if you touch the soldering iron to it. It also helps to solder wire jumpers between the top and bottom to keep track of where you are.
If the above applies and your willing to promise to spend at least a little of your time working on this, I will give you an ecu. You can document in whatever form is available, as long as you can e-mail or snail mail me a copy (hand drawings are just fine). Please label as best as possible, and make sure to copy exactly what is written on the ecu (especially get the component numbers!). If there are enough people intrested I'd like to devote a whole thread to this topic, and get to carving out the different sections of the ecu.
To request your ecu first post in this thread, then e-mail your name, forum name, mailing addy, and phone number (for FedEx) to
calum@calumsult.com. Oh, and the ecu will more than likely be broken. And obviously I've only got a limited supply of junked ecus, when they run out thats it, sorry.
