WOW! MAP FOUND!!! Was "How to change ignition advance at idle?"

Calum, one more question.
How can I change ignition advance at idle rpm?
I hear an opinion what here is an additional map in B13 ecu to control ignition advance at idle.
Or I will just chage it at ignition map for corresponding RPM?

There is on other ecus, I've never found it for B13s. I'll add it to the list of stuff to hunt for.

I'm after the fan turn on/off points if anyone else is hunting through the rom.

I have found some addresses in my rom to test for that map.
I like to find it, because I really need to advance my timing to stabilize idle of my C3 cams.

Calum, what about this address range, 460 - 47F:
0000046 0A 0A 0A 0A 0A 0A 0A 0A 0B 0D 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F
0000047 0A 0A 0A 0A 0A 0A 0A 0A 0B 0D 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F

(in *-52F01 ECU)
Do you know this map?

thats how it looks in 91nx2000 rom:
0000046: 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 19
0000047: 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F

The same map I've found in G20 ECU:
000000E460: 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F │ 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 19
000000E470: 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F │ 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 0F 19

Not a clue. Try setting 460 then 470 to all 00 or all FF and see what happens. Thats how I go exploring, you'll usually see really quickly what something does.

If you really do wander on to the idle ign adv, aim for 00 not FF. :P

Try setting to all FF and see a blown engine!

Hehe! I'm lucky man! :-D
It is the address I searched for!
The big deals come!

For all of you guys, who have a huge cams and idle problems, try to set timing to more advance at idle:

250 - 18
255 - 19
260 - 20

may still have to raise idle speed
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
270 - 22
275 - 23
280 - 24
285 - 25
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ofcourse each cam is unique, so these values are only approximate. But this should assist you with correcting idling problems.
Also, this assumes that you have not only tuned your timing in the ecu, but also with a timing light and CAS. Or you must set timing to 15 BTDC for stock ROM, and the tuned ROM will advance this timing according to values you changed.

I think this map has a temperature scale, the first line for neutral and the second line is for gear position. I need to test that thing.

The values at the ROM you need to change to:
15 BTDC = 0F HEX
16 BTDC = 10 HEX
17 BTDC = 11 HEX
18 BTDC = 12 HEX
19 BTDC = 13 HEX
20 BTDC = 14 HEX
21 BTDC = 15 HEX
22 BTDC = 16 HEX
23 BTDC = 17 HEX
24 BTDC = 18 HEX
25 BTDC = 19 HEX

Fill the 2 rows I have post before with this value. It is a simply job for any HEX editor.

Please post your results in this thread, positive or negative.

And I ask all of you guys, not to post these addresses off-forum and off-contributor area.

They are ref vs coolant temp, I checked that. Btw, I think $0450 is the ign adv when cranking (starting the car), also ref vs coolant temp.

Ok! So we need to change a cranking advance according to the idle advance?
Calum, please check email - I just sent you a message.

Retarding the timing while cranking makes it easier for high-compression motors to starts. MSD has several products that do this, kinda handy to be able to do it from the ecu side.

I'll send you a reply tonight.

Thank GOD. I'm not a big fan of the '91-92 ECU's on at 212*, off at 203* routine (like on my VE ECU from you).

I miss the on at 203*, off at 194* setup of the '93 ECUs.

Can you confirm those exact temperatures Greg? Fire up your consult program and watch the digital temp gauge for exactly when the fans kick on. It would be nice to get the 93s exact temps confirmed too, that will make tracking this down much easier.

Calum--
I have watched those exact temps many, many, many, many times on my SE-R. I have a Techtom CMX-100 in the car, as you know. The original (and JWT) ECUs both turned the fans on at 203*F and off at 194*F.

Only the VE ECU from you (which apparently uses the '91-92 code) turns the fans on at 212*F and off at 203*F.

I get antsy when the temp goes above 208*.

Gotcha. If your using a Techtom that is perfect. I'll see what I can do. I know some bald dude wanted his NX fans turning on earlier too.

Greg: Ok, I can do it, but I can't claim credit on this one. I figured out Friday night just by comparing 91 and 93 roms that the setpoints aren't in the data section of the rom, but embedded in the actual code. Erich (see link below, he's a really smart dude) worked out the disassembly to find the actual spot. Whats intresting is the ecu actually does something based on four different temps (90,95,100, & 105 deg C), but I'm not sure what. Wierd. Anywho, looks like changing those setpoints isn't a big deal. Where do you want them?

Now that is interesting, I am with you though Calum. why spread it over 4 temp points?

Okay, my head hurts a little after reading that thread. Not my territory.

It's no big deal, really, Calum. I can live with the 212*F thing.

Especially since I plopped in a ginormous radiator today and couldn't get the thing to go past 168*F at idle. And...you know how hot it was in the region today...
