Could someone take a look at these pics and verify that everything is correct. I can't get this thing to work for the life of me.

Thanks

PS. Tumbs are clickable, to LARGE pics.

Oh snap! Thanks man. Now how do I fix this? Just melt the sauter with the iron? Will that let me pull it out and replace it?

I'll have to go get a new cap, I don't think I can stretch that one that far.

also, might want to put ur IC's in the right position
ur 163 and 232 chips are in wrong spots.

once uve done that, make sure ur IC's are working:
-> measure the voltage of pin 11 on 74HC163 it should be ~2.5v (square 0/5V

for the rs232, easiest test is that when hooked up, it should light up the leds on transmit/receive

might also want to check the resistance of that resistor u moved and make sure its still correct

What a noob

Oh well, I've never done anything with circuit boards, or a soldering iron, or anything. Guess sometimes you just gotta learn the hard way! Thanks NewKleer!

alright, there's no way I can get this out with a soldering iron. Seems like I've heard something about a solder vaccum thingy... is this what I need?

vaccuum thing is only used to clean out the hole once the ic is removed, its not really useful to remove ic

what u need to do is put a bit more solder onto all the pins, do one side at a time, and heat all pins up by keep sort of stroking along all the pins. when theyre all hot, u can push that side out a bit. then do it on the other side, and eventually ull be able to get it out.

easier way if u can go and buy replacement chips, is cut the legs off at the IC, then remove each pin individually. ur chips might be dead anyway
