Before getting my '99 SE-L I owned a '98 200sx Base, which got 29/39. Now I've seen plenty of sites that said that the 200sx SE-R had an EPA of 24/31.
When I was buying my SE-L I knew that I was going to get ~24/31. So when I saw sites like Edmunds advertise 29/39, I knew something was fishy. When I found the SE-L for sale on eBay, I noticed that the guy who was selling it also said that it had an EPA of 29/39.
I've also seen some Canadian site say that the EPA was 29/39.
Is it just me or some people got their facts wrong?
29/39... yeah right. My mileage sucks. I get 20mpg mixed driving, 24 highway (with an auto.) 19 City driving. Of course the city I drive in has lots of steep hills.
Maybe theres something wrong with my car. I'd love to get 29/39.
You should check this out: it has a lot of useful information about gasoline and mileage:

I think they are just using the GA16 numbers by mistake.
It seems like if some mixed driving is involved then the gas millage goes up by a bit. I do only city... i don't think I ever hit over 260 miles on a tank while doing city driving...
I always get 29-30 right when it starts hitting the last line I fill up and it's always around 10 gallons and I get 300 miles, I just started using the a/c again, I wonder how much I'll lose
Most of my driving is done right at 65 mph with 5 stop lights inbetween. I drive about 38 miles one way.
I've heard stories of the GA16 getting incredible gas mileage. NX1600's get good mileage.

Like I said, I used to have a GA16 200sx which got awesome gas millages. I took it from Harrisonburg, VA to Saint Louis, MO, 750 mile trip one way, and only fueled up twice. I got around 43 miles per gallon.
I took my SR20 Sentra SE-L with a short ram intake, to the same place twice and got around 33 miles per gallon. Fueled around 2-3 times one way.
My girl friend lives in Saint Louis, so my trips are about 1400 miles every couple months, so I would love to get 39 miles per gallon, but I guess 33 will suffice.
I do some mixed driving in my SE-L, some 55mph and some 35mph, and I get around 27-28 mpg. Of course, I accelerate extremely slow and shift where the manual says to (15, 25, 40, 45). Annoys the crap out of the people behind me, but it seems to save me gas!

yeah my ga got 48mpg!!! when it had all 5 gears and 33-38 with driving in 4th!! crazy lil motor...
my E with a jdm swap gets around 25-30mpg depending on the mix of driving and how spirited I am driving....and it has all 5 gears!

I'm almost tempted to go buy a 1998 200sx SE and just do couple engine mods, yes they would cost a good bit but in the long run it would be better
The reason for a 200sx over a 1998/1999 Sentra is pretty simple, 200sx with the GA16 engine is pretty quick and Nissan still put the sporty stuff in it, like tachometer etc.
But in all seriousness, I don't think I could easily let go of my '99 SE-L . She drives nice, looks nice (I love the blue, my gf loves the blue lol).
So in pursuit of better gas millage, I'm going to try rewiring the MAF senser's ground wire.
