startup squeal

Getting squealing at startup. I'm used to the startup clatter on my 2000 SE (9K miles). This sounds like a belt. Any ideas?

Dose it happen for a split sec while the starter is cranking?

Thanks for the response Mike and 97 black SER. I've already had the starter replaced due to its ability to not work when I needed it to. Sometimes the starter clutch would not even grab, it would just spin. It sounds almost like the belts are loose, or they're trying to turn something that really doesn't want to turn, like a bad idler pulley or something. I love everything about my SE except for this. It drives me nuts, and it's embarrassing when I'm giving someone a ride, telling them how great Nissan Sentra's are, they should check them out, yada yada, then it strikes. Sometimes, if it's humid, or if I just washed the car, it can squeal for a long period of time, but only if the engine is cold. If it's been driven recently, it won't do it.

Sounds like your belts are loose. Easy fix. Just pop the hood and tighten them.
