about emission and stuff. how strict are the cops down there? I'll be attending school in the Houston area and just want to know if my classic can pass emission. i have I/H/E and thats all. my exhaust is pretty loud so if im gonna get pull over i rather remove my exhaust before i get in trouble. PEOPLE IN THE HOUSTON AREA!!! LET ME KNOW!!!
I'm not from Texas and don't know the laws there, BUT I have some advise that might help. I moved to Oklahoma from Wisconsin to go to college and was worried about their emissions, inspections, and tint laws. What I did was kept my car registered in Wisconsin. Oklahoma police weren't able to touch me for anything done to my car because it wasn't an Oklahoma registered vehicle. As long as you are a student, you do not have to make yourself a permanent resident in Texas, you can keep your permanent residency in North Carolina.

I used to be a noob but now I'm just a dumbass www.m4exhaust.com
cops dont really care unless ur exaust is super loud like open headers but once in a while on incoming ramps on the freeway they have white vans with a hose checking ur emission while u pass they snap a pic of ur plates and if u fail they send u a ticket if u need a place to get a inspection tag here in houston let me know.
Just give em some sh*tty excuses, like "I don't speak English" Im kidding with you. Just dont haul ass off or rev it that loud, or take it to a muffler shop and glass pack it.

keep your NC plates and everything and then u dont have to worry about texas emissions i go to school out here and i kept my fl plates and they dont do anything and i have all emissions crap off! texas is only stickt to its residents i think...
there are white vans that do the emissions thing, but I don't know if they send you a ticket. I would think not seein how it takes 10-20 min to do the whole inspection at a shop.
Anyway, it is really luck of the draw down here. If you get a cop that is in a bad mood he may pull you over for a loud exhaust but I doubt it. I hear loud exhausts all the time, never seen any of them get pulled over. You should be good.
My ex-college roomie was from Virginia and had his homestate plates on for the longest time, even with expired inspection, etc. He even got pulled over in a speed trap where they were pulling over people wholesale, and right after they stopped him and then turned around to pull someone else over he just drove away, and saw the cop in the rearview mirror just stand there. As long as you're an enrolled student in Texas I think you're exempt for vehicle residency requirements.
Now the above story was a LONG time ago before computerized systems, so ...
Do you have to get your inspection in the same county that you live or can you go to any county that does roller tests? Anyone passed a roller with a ve?
