Jotech blues

Had my new springs/struts put on by Jotech last week (which is supposed to have a good rep) but went to get the wheels rotated today and they had to cut off the bolt (they thought they would have to cut off the wheel!) *** it was crossthreaded and fused on there.

Think I got a case to get some money out of Jotech? Cost me $130.

I would try. go directly to the owner. don't waste time with the clerks. go in there as a mature firm individual and you should get results. tell them they need to pay for the repair, "it's a cost of doing business".
If that does not work tell them you are going to file a report with the better business burea. if that does not work then warn everybody about bad business. and we can lean from your experience.

I don't think you do. Cross threading happens all the time. I work at an automotive place, and I can tell you, we see it all the time. All they can do is cover it (if its their fault). Thats about it.

Yeah, I think you're right. I talked to them on the phone (I didn't want to waste the gas driving over there) and they were pretty courteous but adamant about having their wrenches set low (45 lbs.) so I think it's just one of those things. Hopefully I won't remember what it was for when I see it on my Visa bill and relive the pain. They do have a good rep around town so I'm inclined to believe them.

Sorry to hear about the trouble Bill. The work you had done is pretty simple to do on the CRX. You take bolt's and nut's off with air. You put them on with good old hand power. I'v heard the stories about them

And now I found out my lower ball joints and right rack are shot (was wondering what that clunking noise was) so I gotta get those fixed too ... AND pay for another alignment, I imagine! This is one car I didn't want to keep pouring money into.

If this keeps up, I may have to get a job (or a newer car, or both). Or become a pedestrian.

Were they (JoTech) the last to remove/install the wheel in question? If so, they're responsible...my opinion. (as long as it hasn't been a long time since the visit)

I used to work at a shop too. Those torque extensions many places use still apply too much torque to the lugnut. Torque spec on my SE-R is 72-87 ft.lb. It doesn't take much to turn that into 175-200 ft.lb.

It's just whether or not you have the patience to deal with such an issue. Like it was mentioned before...be firm, but polite.

laterz...joDy (my .02)

I think your clue is this, if you have a shop that can't do a det swap on a nissan 240. I wouldn't take my nissan to be worked on over there. The have a 240sx sponsored by ENkei and since they were sponsored by enkei, they gave it to jotec h to work on. Now you have sweet looking car that can't even run.

truly!

I agree with Ballicstic... I went over to jotech one time to ask for a quote on the SR20DE-T swap on my 200SX, and they wouldn't give me the time of day. If you aren't in a Supra or a Honda they dont give a flying flip about you or your car. I say screw SlowTech...

what amazes me is nothing is really new about jotech. That's really how they are.

JoTech - overrated, and overpaid.....go check out Syndicate off of Beltline and Skylane Rd.....The owner's a true enthusiast, does great work and is pretty generous.....between that and Boostfactor...

ya, jotech may know how to put an intake on a car, but real tuning, or struts/springs........... I don't know, they are always pretty nice to me when I go in there (very, very rare that I do step in that place), but who knows, I say if someone needs something done, ask around before you take it to a shop, sometimes it only takes a 12 pack
