What is it about my cheap little cars and stereo thieves?
Went to my car this morning to find it surrounded by curious apartment
maintenence workers and broken glass. My driver's door window was smashed, but HA! ... after being broken into three times before, I know now to remove my stereo detachable face, any and all CDs, radar detector, etc.,
when I park. So all they got was my $10 tire pressure gauge (damn, I liked
that gauge). They missed out on about $3 in change in the little dashboard
cubbyhole. And left my umbrella, pocket flashlight and $20 Mapsco.
So $150 for a new window, $10 for a new gauge, and bad hair from cleaning
the glass off the seat in this high humidity.
Sure wish they'd look first to see if there IS a stereo before breaking
in! That's why it's only an $85 refurbished Panasonic head unit!
Yeah, what pisses me off is, hey stupid, LOOK first before you bust my window to see there's nothin' to steal! Guess I need to get one of those NY signs that say "No Radio."
What I really hate is that you can NEVER get rid of all that broken glass.
I'm at the point now where I EXPECT the window to be broken when I go out to my car. So this morning I wasn't really that surprised. It's more a relief when I DON'T find any windows broken.
Sorry to hear that bro. I had that happen to me over the Memorial Day Weekend. All the dam fool took was a bottle of Eddie Bauer cologne which was almost empty anyway. Oh well, thank goodness for dumb thieves.
PS:If you get real lucky like I did, you might even score big and meet the woman of your dreams in a day or two after having your car broken into. (Well, at least one of the women in your dreams.)

Mine was only $162 (no full coverage, so I always ask how much so they don't assume insurance is covering it and pad the bill). They wouldn't take their $25 yellow pages coupon though with that price.
I'm near Carrollton/Plano, and I didn't think my car would rate a break in in that hood. Lived in Cracktown by Skillman/LBJ for a couple years with no incident.
My last break in was 3 or 4 years ago in my Classic ... they stood between me and a 1st gen MX-6 and broke both windows. They couldn't get my $99 Kenwood tape deck out, but it became a detachable face (wasn't before!).
Damn, you people are freakin me out with all the break in's... I'm gettin ready to move up to Dallas next month. Guess I'll have to fork up the extra cash and find a place that has garage parking.
