Your alternator might be going out... Mine did the same thing for a few weeks right before it gave out. There is a bundle of wires coming out of the positive side of the battery cable that goes to the ECU, and if there is 'enough' voltage drop, it will start w/ the lights, go to the speedo and tach needles (just die and go to zero and back while you drive) and then your car when you're driving. Go get a diagnostic check done on your system... and make sure you get a "drain test" done too, just in case.

Ben

Sup Can? After reading four years worth of alternator posts on the old SE-R list, it is recommended to spend the extra money on the genuine Nissan alternator from the dealer. If you get the Autozone lifetime warranty special it will go out often. I think Courtesy sells them for a couple of hundred or so. It is well worth the extra money since it is pretty hard to change out. -Wes

If you buy one new, they're about $200 for the SR20. Try to find a good used one. You'll save a bundle.

Try here

Oh the pain!

Thanks Wes and Ben for the excellent advices.
I went to PepBoys, man it was rough.. 169 for the alternator and 75 for core charge. you guys think out the Life Time... Wonder how long it will last? What do you think Wes?
Should I go to the Junk yard for an OEM one?

wrong...well.. at least for me it wasnt the case..

when i bought my alternator and starter at AZ, they where both calsonic brand. refurbished genuine nissans, so..unless i was the lucky i believe AZ sells refurbished nissan starters and altenators. but before you buy check it out. they let you look at it before you purchase it
