What do you use? Mechanic or Stealership?

I really, really need to get my ride in. I need to do a 60,000-mile check up and an overall good look over to make sure nothing isn’t about to explode in my ride.
So I’m wondering, when doing your recommended mileage check ups do you go to Regular Joe Smoe Mechanic or do you go the stealership? Also if any of you have any suggestions for a good mechanic in the DFW, Id appreciate that too.

The dealership will know what to do exactly and what to look for, but they will charge you quite a bit. If you find a nice shop then thats even better, cause it wont be as much. Cause the damn dealership will find sh*t thats not even browen and make up lies sometimes. Or they will fix something that they think will go out in years, i dunno...Thats the only thing I dislike about dealerships, not all of em though. its a toss up...

Go to www.llea.com

Lovers Lane European Automotive. Witold (pronounced VEE-told) the Polish mechanic is your man, but everyone there does a great job. He used to work on my Classic (till it died) and did a great job at a super price (cheapest brake job in town). He ONLY does what is necessary, no matter how much I beg him (he's a Benz man and when I ask him about replacing parts that aren't quite worn yet, he comes back with, "Ahhhh, eees not a Mercedes.") They work by appointment. I even had him do a buyer's check on a 93 XE I was thinking of buying, and when I tried to cancel it after I thought better of the car, he insisted on doing a quick look for free and gave me an honest opinion (mechanically great, cosmetically horrible) and told me to find one in better condition and he'll charge me for looking at that one. Great shop. Unfortunately they don't work on Hondas (some might see that as a plus )

It's on Lovers and Inwood, northwest corner, near the 7-11.

Oh, if you've got a G20, you might have to sweet-talk him into doing it as a "Nissan" since they're a little hesitant to stray into "luxury" brand Japanese makes.

Now the way I've found all my good mechanics is through the cartalk.com site under "mechanX files" or something like that.

Don't go to the dealer unless you're at gunpoint!

Even $tealerships employ monkeys, as I found out. I now do all my own work. That doesn't really help you, Rose, but I thought you should have that warning.
