shifter support rod?

I've been swapping my motor and wanted to know what's the purpose of the shifter support rod. I can't see where the other end of the rod meets with the control rod cause there are heat shields in the way. Anyways I was curious to see what it does.

That basicly just holds the shifter in place , it is kinda a floating shifter , the rod makes it so that when the engine rocks , the shifter will go with it , so the shift rod length will be the same , basicly so if the engine rocks it doesnt want to pull it out of gear ......
