could this be causing my flexpipe/cat problem?

i haven't been able to get my exhaust hooks (at the front of the cat) back on the rubber hangers after i put on my header. there just isn't enough give in the flexpipe. i also have sheared my front dog bone motor mount bolt (the one that goes on the crossmember). anyway, could the fact that the engine is shifted up a little bit be causing the piping to be too tight, therefore not allowing enough movement to get the hooks onto the hangers? this is what i am betting on, ordered a new bolt today. this ever happen to anyone else? thanks- jeff

see, that's the problem with the bolt. i have the prothane mounts in, and i guess it sheared the bolt because i had been riding around with a blown stock mount for about 6 months ( i have a act clutch), and i guess that the original bolt had just been stressed too much, and it broke with the new mounts.

do you think that it would shift enough to break the bolt on the front?

you know how on the front mount, there are two bolts that hold it in. one goes through a kinda u-shaped bracket on the cross member. that's the one that sheared off, or maybe it just worked itself out. it doesn't have a nut, the nut is welded on the crossmember, more or less.

here is a pic. you can't really see the bracket i was talking about, but anyone who has ever looked down there should know what i'm talking about.

edit: i'm going to go try to take another pic of the bracket.

see how arrow #2 is pointing at that bolt that is attached to the bracket, which you still can't really see, but anyway. you see what i'm saying. which brings me back to the original question, could this much motorshift be causing problems with getting the hooks on the hanger? at first i thought it would, but the more i look at it, it looks like when i get the bolt in to secure the engine it will actually raise the engine and stretch the secondary even further. am i being retarded?

i had no issues when installing any of the headers i have had or done, you don't want to put stress on the flexpipe at all and the fact that your engine isn't bolted in the front will put undue stress on the pipe. it may have something to do with why you can't get the hangers on. why haven't you gotten a new bolt and put it through the mount so the engine is where it should be? gotta start there. the hangers are pretty flexible and lubing them helps when trying to put the hangers back in. that and a couple long screwdrivers or small prybars.

i didn't realize the bolt was gone until i was installing the header. but i had noticed the engine was shifting, but i figured it was one of the mounts i hadn't replaced going out, not one i had just fixxed. i order the bolt from the dealership on monday, i'm still waiting for it to get here. the more i think about it the more i think that i will be able to line everything up once the engine is situated.

that looks pretty bad...you should at least stick some bolt in there to hold it in place...
there are plenty at the junker! All nissans pretty much uses similiar bolt...

since i went 3inch, im not even using the hook...it wont fit the 3 inch pipe anyways...i guess thats why hotshot 3 inch dp have that extra 2.5 at the end that goes to the cat??..

i went to the junkyard on saturday, and got some bolts off an 89 max, but they didn't fit. for now, i'm just not driving it until nissan gets me my bolt, which will hopefully be tomorrow. then maybe the exhaust hangers will line up, and if i have to replace the flexpipe, well, so be it. thanks for the words yall.
