really hard to get in reverse

well its really hard for me to get in reverse i have to use 2 hands to push the shifter back.. my freind said it might be the heat sheild i do hear a little rubbing when i shift threw all the gears but i dont understand why its so hard in reverse.

Here is some stuff that might be worth tryingl:

Jack up the car, put it on jack stands and take a look at what's happening underneath when someone else shifts gears for you. Might be something obvious. If not, try retorquing all the bolts that hold the tranny to the engine. Support the engine with a jack, loosen the bolts, then tighten to spec.

I once had a crunch when shifting into reverse which I resolved by toghtening a loose tranny bolt.

That's a great thought -- to check the clutch cable. If it has stretched a little you might not be disengaging the clutch completely. I don't know why it did not occur to me.
