What else to do when installing header?

I'll be installing a Hotshot header in my '92 Classic in a couple of weeks. Anyone have recomendations on things I might as well replace or inspect while I do it?

EGR (clean), Manifold and Cat bolts (replace), Replace gaskets with Mr. Gasket copper ones, Replace O2 if it's almost time, am I forgetting anything? You may want to take a good look at your cat to see if it'll need replacing anytime soon as well.

I'm in the same situation hopefully - used Hotshot on my '92.
Is the Mr. Gasket copper gasket a generic sheet that you cut or do they make one specifically for the SR20?
I had planned on getting an OEM SR20 Nissan head to primary gasket, a OEM Nissan 300ZX primary to secondary gasket, and an OEM Nissan secondary to cat gasket.
Anyone have a better suggestion?

Steve! yeah Mr. Gasket makes a copper gasket specifically for the SR20. I dont know the part # off hand. Its like $25 bucks. Its really nice too. Ben broke a stud off in my head when we put the turbo in but luckily it came out with an easy-out! Good luck!

Dont forget Ultra Copper is your temporary friend if any bolts snap. Good luck with your CAT bolts. THEY SUCK!!!
I just replaced the whole CAT with a test pipe cause my bolts were rusted and wouldnt budge.

Wait a sec, the Hotshot header doesn't come with ANY gaskets? Not even the primary to secondary? Or does it come with cheap ones that should be replaced anyway?

I'll assume the worst and plan on drilling out the CAT bolts and replacing with stainless; anyone know what size they are?

Thanks,

Brian

i know the HS comes with a primary to secondary copper gasket,
the copper Mr. Gasket for the exhaust manifold to the primary is very good quality. i think shipped it cost me a total of $27 from Summit Racing.

also you might want to upgrade your gaskets for the CAT, buy the stainless type from Nissan.

Anyone have a better suggestion for the primary to secondary gasket (OEM 300Z?) and the secondary to cat gasket (OEM SR20)? Keep in mind I am dealing wih a used 1st gen Hotshot, so I need to source thses parts out seperately.

Have you tried to get the primary to secondary gasket directly from Hotshot? I would hope they would sell it separately.

Just a follow up. The copper gasket from Summit was 27.40 shipped; O2 sensor from Nissan $137.43; CAT gasket from Nissan $7.57; manifold studs from Nissan $3.89 each. I also got a clutch cable form Nissan $47.71, not exactly header related, but I needed it. All those Nissan parts are list price, your discounts may vary...

Thanks for the help guys.

Greg Vogel @ Mossy Nissan!
New style stainless OEM SR20 manifold gasket, OEM 300ZX secondary gasket, and OEM SR20 cat gasket, $25.00, plus at cost UPS 2nd day shipping for $12.00. Greg's the man!
Every single Nissan dealer in Indy (all 4) giggled when I called and told them what I was looking for. No one had the manifold gasket.
Now, these $@$(#@*%^$&#*& cat bolts!!!!!!!!!!!
The lower one is not to bad, but the higher one looks like it's forged to the freakin hanger bracket. This ain't gonna be pretty.
I already broke the heads off all 4 of the bolts on the cat heat shield....

OEM 300ZX secondary gasket
Does this gasket work for all gen hotshot headers? I can't remember off the top of my head if the first gen was 4-1 or 4-2-1. I need to replace the primary to secondary gasket on a friends gen 4 header and I don't feel like having to go through hotshot for it if it can ge ordered at a nissan dealer.

New-style stainless steel SR20 OEM manifold to primary gasket 14036-7J500, stainless steel SR20 OEM secondary to cat gasket 20692-65J00, stainless steel OEM 300ZX gasket for primary to secondary 20691-01P80. This is for an early gen 4-2-1 Hotshot. The 300ZX gasket is not an exact fit and must be modified. Two new bolt holes must be drilled and excess gasket trimmed.

HS header installed today. Everything went great, almost perfect. If you're installing one I would recomend you order the exhaust hanger that goes between the cat and secondary. Mine was a rusty piece of junk and fell apart when I put any pressure on it. It's part #20722-50Y00, $12.88. Also get a torch to heat up those cat-to-secondary nuts before you try to get them off.
