Can you do this?

Hi there, i have a question. My car is automatic, is it ok for an automatic transmition to change gear while driving? For instance, i'm going down the hill, can i shift from Drvie to Neutral while in motion?

Also, while car in stop position and gear is in Neutral, can I rev it up to 3K-3.5K RPM and than quickly shift to Drive? Is it SAFE, or will it kill my transmition?

p.s. No question is dumb question, it's dumb if you don't ask

You can safely shift gears when the car is in motion i.e. D to 2 or D to N.

You should not "neutral drop" it though by revving while in N or P and then jamming it into D or 2 or 1. I destroyed the tranny in my Dad's Camry when I was 16 back in 1990 by doing that

nuetral drops totally kill the trans both manual shifting and dropping beat the goodness out of the valve body in the trans, sometimes manual shifting isn't as bad depending on the load on the trans/motor vs. speed, rpm, & gear....

Do not Neutral Drop. It will screw up your Tranny with a quickness. You can however stall it up to 3K if your car will allow. That is better than Neutral drops.

As for shifting, there is nothing wrong with that.
