SR20DET GTI-R head on a SR20DE GTI block

Hello, I'm tuning my Sunny GTI (SR20DE) with many part from a Sunny GTI-R, including the thottlebody's, but these body's won't fit (without modify) so I wonder if a GTI-R Head will fit on a GTI (SR20DE) block.

Thanks,

Mark Kootstra

Not 100% sure mate but I would think that it isn't a straight swap. There are differences between the two blocks so I would suspect that the heads aren;t interchangable.

I would have thought though that the GTIR throttle bodies and inlet plenum would be a direct fit.

I assume that you have both (SR20DE and the GTIR throttle bodies) what doesn't fit?

u can use the GTIR head on a regular de block!

BUT u have to use the DE head bolts because the GTIR head bolts are 12mm while the de head bolts are 10mm, not sure how safe that is! if u want to make it safe u have to drill out the holes for the head bolts to 12mm and use gtir bolts or head studs.

Car will run like a DOG with a gtir head and cams, due to being made for boost you're really going to run into dramas i think. And you can't just swap your cams over from your DE head either.. Sure the GTI-R's quads may give you a little more torque, but the power you will lose from the less agressive cams would probably not be worth it unless yo'ure looking at bolting a turbo on too.

But for an NA SR20DE, with the GTiR head and Quads... adding Cams... would it worth it???

Im thinking on doing this... but i dont know...

I just did a similar swap using a USDM DE block with a GTi-r head. I used the DE ARP head studs and used GTi-R dowl pins. the car made good power, but ran into over heating issues. Wanted to know if any of you guys hear of anything like this? Are the water ports on the DET head different from the DE??

You could check both head gaskets, see if they line then you will know if the water ports are the same.
