Aftermarket Catch Pans

Are there any advantages to adding one? I just wanted to free some space uo front and thought I could relocate it and replace it with w Greddy or similar.

i cant think of a performance benifit, but they are rust free, clean inside and you can place them just about anywhere. just make sure the hoses do not kink around and twist about. make the hoses straight as possible and if you can give them a gentle downward slope (so the oil/gunk will fall into the catch can and will no climb up the "clean" side hose)

oh...and they look pretty and blingin

i was just gonna remove the catch can and connect line together. wtf is with this catch can. but rembered people said it wasnt a good idea. but to me the catch can seemed pointless. some one post up some links of some aftermarket catch cans.

Ever looked inside your intake mani? Its discusting. I was taking apart my u12 and say how much gunk blows out of the valve cover. A catch can alows all the gunk to fall to the bottom of the can.... not the intake manifold. A dirty intake mani also probly means that sh*t is also getting in the engine, and i dont want that.

They are not really SR20 specific, Stratton.

Monty, that setup in your car is absolutely dangerous. Give the car to me.

i see that your car is turbo. so its set up diff then a n/a catch can. if i were to run a aftermarket catch can on a n/a de, just run the lines that went into the stock catch can into the aftermarket one correct ...

correct... just not sure if you really need one or not. Are you getting oil buildup in your TB? I get alot of oil blow-by during track days and find my IC piping has a nice light coating of oil afterwards.

If that's what she likes.

Stratton:

The OEM catchcan is plenty enough if you're running only N/A. Its simply there to stop blow-by going back into the crankcase (though the routing is kind of retarded, and gets valvecover blowby into the intake).

If you want to run an aftermarket catchcan while N/A (which is perfectly fine), get a nice emissions grade tube and T-section to run from the valvecover and crankcase area to the can, then the can tubes into the intake. It works just as if you're re-routing the stock catchcan (writeup is in tech library).

thanks for the info guys ! only reason i want to run an aftermarket one is to move it away from the front of the engine to clean up the engine bay and give a nicer apperance.
