I have a 93 SE-R i just bought and the Head is Stamped 53J 5L...w/ a gold valve cover with black in the park plug area... has egr and i want to try to figure out the compression and where the engine is from...usdm, jdm or what. thx
i have the same head stamped too, but all i got is the head nothing else. can someone figure this out. thanx!
just swapped my new jdm highport into my b14 and it says 53j 5r and has 2/7 in one circle and 1/blank in the other?? rumors say it could be a 10.1 but i dont see it on the list......anyone?

i looked at my head today. it said 53j 8r, external coil. I didn;t get a chance to look under the coil. I looked at the list. THe color of the vc is silverish w/ black strip in the spark plug channel. No EGR. I'm assuming its a regular 9.5:1 unless I'm reading the list wrong.

i have a 92 infiniti g20, with (according to 2 owners ago), a jdm sr20de swap. i am trying to figure out the compression ratio of the motor i have, because i plan on boosting it and i want to know how conservative i should make it. the head code behind the distributor is: 53J-2R.
"53J 2R - Normal pistons, highport, egrless and gold/black Valve cover"
i have the infiniti valve cover still.
i have a garrett t28 off a skyline, i bought from a local shop. what compression ratio do i have? what motor do i actually have? and how much power would you recommend for a reliable daily driver. i know its a turbo setup, and there is always risk involved.... i just dont want to be over stressing the internals.... (like 220hp on honda d15b7 rods.)

thanks.
The motor is probably just a JDM 9.5:1 DE motor. You dont have to worry about anything untill you are making over 350whp.

For starters I am a honda guy that is doing his first sr20det/drift project. Please don't hate me for that I really like nissans too. I probably should have done some more reasearch before buying but I found a good deal on what is supposed to be a jdm sr20det block and head so I bought it. Then a friend of mine asked me if I was sure it is a det and not just a de. I then started to wonder. Block came with main caps, girdle, oil pan, oil pump, rods, pistons, head came with valves, springs, retainers, cams, cam gears. So that is all I have to work with in terms of figureing out what this motor is. Seams like head casting number is a good start so here it is 52F 1R. Don't know about valve cover color and can't get fins picture to come up so not sure about that. If anyone can help that would be great, or if more info is neaded just tell me where to look. Once I figure out what it is I would appreciate any suggestions for making about 350whp that I can run pretty hard at the track. Thanks,
JKP
hi i thought i might add a bit of info on my sr20de.
im from austalia and i recently had my motor swapped as the old one died.
the head code is 53j and under that it says 2R.
according to the list mine should have Normal pistons, highport, egrless and gold/black Valve cover.
Yet my car has the egr system still fitted i was told that my standard inlet manifold was used with the jdm therefore retaining the egr setup or some say that it might just be a plain oz spec motor and your lists just confused me a bit lol.
heres some pics
Just swapped a JDM sr with the head code of 53J 9L and i bought it from a foriegn engine dealer with egr less and silver valve cover with NO black in the middle. Said to be a 9.5:1 but not sure. Anyone know?
also the one in my car reads 53J 3L. Has that been identified?
Also wondering too. Same ID on my B13 high port with EGR, bare aluminum VC with black channel. I'm under the assumption that this is a JDM engine, can anyone confirm? And JDM engines don't have EGR hook-ups, right?
Previous owner of the car told me he bought the car with the engine already swapped in. I guess for emission reasons, the USDM intake and exhaust manifolds was swapped over to the JDM engine.
EDIT: found answer from old retired thread on post 1, JDM 10:1.
