My JDM engine has 53J 4L on the head, highport, egr-less, red injectors, gold w/ black stripe valve cover. Pay no attention to the egr tube, I put that in there to pass emissions. Anyone know if it's a 9.5:1 or 10.0:1 engine?

Here's a pic of it:

JDM transplant 53J 1L, Blk Channel Champagne VC

Searched and did not find an answer to your question, maybe you have since you posted? Haven't found anyone else on thread with same code other than you.

I also have a JDM transplant with codes 53J 1L, valve cover has black channel, color is alternately described as champagne or gold, the donor car it came from had an auto trans. Described to me as 10:1 CR motor by Dave Coleman before I bought it, but other than that, don't know much about it. He replaced the original USDM SR20DE with >125k miles with this JDM motor and then set up to pass CA emissions pre-OBDII.

I have a lot of pics of the engine before I went into the car, plus pics installed. DC set it up with the full EGR for CA emissions compliance. I can't see other codes unless they're hidden by the coil, next time I have a reason to I can take it off.

Probably not a great FI candidate.

I don't have the 4r but mine (53J 1L) is a 10.0:1 CR. The 4r is probably also 10.0:1, or at least not lower than 9.5:1.

I have a 53J with the same 4L code, but it is stamped like this one with the 53J offset to the right and up, with 2 raised bars above the 4L:

It is a highport and has no egr. Was anyone able to verify if this was 9.5 or 10.0:1? I need to know for correct ecu programming.

I got a couple of code's...

1N5 2R, no doubt what this is.

My other SR20 is labeled UK 89J 3L, Valve cover is NOT red, it's normal-alu-uncolored. It sits in my '95 Primera, and it has a low-port manifold. Specs please..

As i wrote before, that engine came originally on my former Bluebird SSS-G

When the engine dies, found it has normal pistons (NOT flat). Also the brochure reads the car has 9.5:1 CR

Just swap those pistons for a set of OEM flat pistons and enjoy it

Hope it helps for you
