How does a catch can work?

I was just wondering how u guys set this up?

I seen pics of the cans and it looks like most have 2 inlets.
do the 2 hoses from the valve cover just go to the can?
does the pcv valve stay i place?

i also seen cans with a breather? dont all catch cans need this since one hose sucks in air?

just trying to educate myself

heres all I know so far.

Oil vapors go up and condense on the perforated metal plate. Only air can pass thru there. The air gets sucked out while the oil condensed falls back down. If you put a breather filter on, this can will not work properly if at all. I have it set up normally. Which I would recomend. You need that intake suction to get this thing working properly. Why is this mystery box there in the first place?
Who knows?

I understand the drift of things now, but now thier is no engine vacuum sucking the air out of the valve cover it just freely comes out at whatever pace? Also do they keep the pcv valve inplace or just run the hoses to the catch can?
