Exhaust Leaks

Ok Ive had my NX for about six months and Ive received two exhaust leaks, Im wondering is it because Im reving too high or something? the car redlines about 7.5 and I usually stay around 3rpms cruising or 5rpms to 6rpms when Im driving fast. I have no clue whats causing them or how they are caused.

Stock exhaust? I blew my cat right off the downpipe when I was romping on it back when it was all stock, lol. Try and get the whole exhaust replaced if its old and rusty.

Yeah its a stock exhaust and yeah it might because its old and rusty. The guy I bought it from had it sittin around for 2 years. How much would a complete exhaust cost?

honestly take this as an opportunity to go ahead and upgrade. Get an hp racing header or a hotshot header and get a vrs exhaust and it may be a good idea to go ahead and replace your cat too. Get mr gasket copper where the header meets the head, because a leak there is a nightmare.

One time I hit VVL getting on an on ramp and right as the cams switched over the resonator welds blew and my exhaust popped off. It was great.

for vrs use the vrs mainpage go get the hotshot header go through the hotshot webiste or the forum. Hp racing headers are available through nopi. A word about exhausts, It has been my experience that thermo tech heat coating is priceless on gaskets. For me the gaskets where my header meet my cat were constantly going bad, I figure the cat is iron and the header is stainless steel and the metals heat and cool at different rates causing them to fail so heat coat your stuff and remember to wrap your header with exhaust wrap and use thermo tech on top of it to make sure that rust is not an issue.

Ok two questions about the exhaust system, does the downpipe come with a catback exhaust or do I have to buy them separately?

Ok I want to replace my complete exhaust system, preferable from the header back. I drive an NX 2000, does anyone know if the Sentra kit matches up or even better a place to buy parts for an NX.

About the catback, that means I have to buy a new Catalytic converter and a new downpipe so that it would all match up correct?

Exhaust system (from the motor to the tip)

Primary / Manifold
Secondary / Downpipe
Cat / Test pipe
Midpipe
Axle Back

A cat back exhaust = midpipe + axle back

Everything from a Sentra will fit except for the axle back.

Each of the parts I listed above are seperated by a flange of some sort. You can see these individual pieces I talk about if you get under your car.

exhuast leaks suuuuckkk...they eat gas mileage, rob low end power and sound shiityy and clog and foul up stuff too

fixed my header/downpipe gasket...but i think running really rich for two weeks clogged my cat now...doesnt feel the same

vrs cat's or only 90 bucks +ten bucks to ship it

how long does a cat usually last????
figure mines a 96'so its about 11 years old now

and heres a good question??? for sr20 pepz

when u have chances to take ur header or downpipe or catback off
is there a way to flush it? or clean the inside pipes at all...*** there nice and black now
is there a chemical we can use....or process=i was thinking of brake cleaner solution or intake cleaner solution with a long brush

In my opinion get ssac headers if your on a budget. They are great. I also replaced my cat. with a universal high flow cat. (you will just need to get someone to weld flanges on it. From the cat back i had 2.5" custom piping done, and mine sounds great. My muffler is a straight through dual tip muffler from otto racing (in my opinion dual tips look the best).

My secondary had a hole worn through it and it made an annoying whisling noise. Kinda like the whistle of a supercharger.

yea get ssac headers and support people who stole hotshot's design and demotivate any company who has any interest in the sr community, good plan, especially when you could get a better product cheaper on the forum ...... IF you buy a cheap header you WILL get a leak at every gasket, trust me on this.

youll lose low end power if you get 2.5" for a minimal top end gain. 2.5" is only effective on cammed or turbo cars

Herm. Add 0.5" to that measurement and I think you are on the right track.
