Clutch engagement issue?

Hey everyone. Im having some problems with what I believe to be my clutch. Ive tried searching the forum to no avail. The problem is when I put the car into reverse the car will jump back, stall and die. It also seems to not want to go physically into the reverse position unless the car is turned off. Any input helps. Thanks

eek. Well supposedly it has nismo mounts and the engine 'appears' to be straight and it doesnt shake or vibrate. But then again I am nowhere near expert on engine installs 101. Every other gear is fine. Nice and straight. Is there anything particular I should look for.

Ok, so went to to attempt to move it and the car WILL NOT go into ANY gear when the car is running. When the car is turned off, however, the gears go into place as they should. My mechanically challeged stepdad added that it may be the clutch clave cylinder. But I can feel the clutch engaging when I press it.

Once again, starting the car while in gear results in the car 'bucking' and stalling. And sorry I forgot to add, though i'm not sure if it helps or not, the car is an S13 with an S13 redtop..

Well since you feel tension on the clutch then the cable is still connected. So you are going to have to adjust the cable to get into gear. The fact it started w/ reverse and is now affecting forward gears sounds like an adjustment issue. But if you adjust it all the way and you still get nothing, then thats where it becomes a clutch problem. But I would check the cable first and also the clutch lever to make sure it isnt cracked and adding slop.

unless this situation occurs directly after a clutch installation, you more than likely have a blown clutch disk

peices of the clutch are doubling up in thickness causing your clutch to stay slightly engaged so you cant go into gear when the engine is idleing and you will move if you start the car in gear regardles of the clutch pedal being depressed

i had the same issue about 2 weeks ago. it was the clutch. one of the springs in the disk and broken and the fragments were keeping it engaged. I changed the cable first because the old cable was adjusted to the max. that didnt fix it, so i changed the clutch and sure enough....
