Low oil pressure and oil light on

Car: B14 w/ W10. So i decided to degrease and rinse the engine bay yesturday and was running fine before the cleaning. After driving the car for about 10 min. the oil light comes on and at idle my electric oil pressure gauge read 12 then 10 then dips barely under 10 (like 9) thats where i shut it off. At cruising RPM(2k-3k) it reads up to 40-60psi. When im increasing speeds in 1st gear it reads kind of high(80psi) until i shift. Note when i start the car the oil pressure jumps up to 80psi then slowly down to 20. I checked the oil pressure senders and they have good connection, no leaking oil. I have enough oil it actually reads a little past full. i did an oil change about week and a half ago. Also when the oil light came on i heard a low whining noise. I wouldnt think it would be the pump because there is oil pressure when cruising. Any idea what can be wrong?

check the oil pick up for clogs and install a mechanical gauge to check pressure.

are you saying it drops under 12psi at idle or while you are cruising at 3k? if 3k that could be an issue worthy of a new oil pump.

I was having the same issue with my car (u12). I ended up replacing the oil filter block (it was leaking at the pressure sender) and switching to a mech gauge. With the electric gauge i was getting 10-12 psi at idle, which, from what I read, is withing spec. With the mechanical gauge I'm getting around 60psi at cold start, which settles down to ~20psi at ilde.

Definitely check for leaks and clogs. I'm starting to think I had some RTV clogging up my electric gague's sender, but IDK. I'm pretty much done with electric gagues. First it was shorting out on the triangle bracket, and reading like 100psi with the car not even running, then it was reading super low and not increasing with RPM.

HAHA, I just realized that you and I had this same conversation in my other thread about oil pressure. Good luck with it.

That light saved my motor last week.... My oil feed line to the turbo came loose from the back of the block, so it saved me.

i was getting 20psi before at idle. now at idle when warm it drops down to 10psi or barely lower. At start up it goes as high as 80psi for about a second then slowly drops. I was going to get a oil pressure sensor from a local autoparts store. Should i try to replace the sensor or try changing the oil?

when the oil pressure drops down like that when the motor is heating up its not bad . the oil isn't as thick when it is hot, so the pressure goes down.

i would get a mech gauge to check it at least against the electric one and maybe switch back after you know it is ok if you are really crazy about the electric one. the electric aren't always the most accurate. as for the oil is it really hot where you are? maybe heavier oil, but if you are seeing 80psi from a de pump that sounds good as is

Ive been driving the car for about 600 miles with the W10 Swap so far and with 10w30 Mobil 1 Clean 5,000 oil. A couple of days ago i cleaned the engine and bay with gunk and a hose. After that, was when the oil light started turning on after about 10 minutes of driving. Im thinking it may be the stock oil pressure sensor that has gotten wet and possibly damaged. I dont see how the oil weight has an effect on the oil pressure now. Wouldnt it have an effect when i changed the oil the first time i started the car? Tomorrow im going to try to get a new sensor and try to see if that cures the problem.

Definitely sounds like a connector issue to me, causing the light to come on.

Get under the car and scope out the connetor and posisbly clean things up.
