Oil Leak - Spark Plug Wells

I have a 98 se-r and i have oil leaks in my spark plug wells. When i went to nissan to ask about the spark plug well gaskets, he said that id have to change the whole valve cover because there are no rubber gaskets. There are what he called, "hard seals" which are a part of the valve cover. He said the rubber seals are only for sr20's prior to 1996.

Is this true? Will i have to change the whole valve cover? This sucks, gonna cost me $200 for something that should cost me $30. Anybody have this problem before? Any suggestions?

No, they are the same as the rest of them. I think there is something weird with the part numbers though. IIRC, the B14 spark plug gasket doesn't have its own part number, it's only available with the valve cover gasket. Just buy the B13 spark plug seals and they will work fine. You should actually replace the VC gasket while you're at it anyway.

You can get the individual o-rings at NAPA. That's where I got mine.

You should go tell that guy at Nissan to go fu*k himself and then complain to his manager. That is completely fraudulent. He blatantly lied to you.

Yea I knew something wasn't right, thanks a lot guys! Yea I will be changing the valve cover gasket as well. Should I use any additional silicone sealer with the new gaskets or anything, or will the new seals be fine by itself? Appreciate the help!

I always use an rtv gasket maker when I replace the valve cover gasket. just play it safe so it seals correctly.
