Adjusting valves or lifters....

Whats up everyone, im in need of some help with my sr20. i have a slight clicking under the valve cover,it doesent sound like a valve tick(not tht bad of a noise) but i dont know exactly whats making the noise, and i do know its not my injectors(just to get that out of the way) any way my buddy has an integra wtha b18, he had the same problem and his rememdy was adjusting what i think was something to do witht he valves or lifters, im not sure. what i would like to know is if this is possible to adjust on our cars and if so how?
i have searched but got nowhere.... thank you
Wesley

What you're descibing is basic valve train noise.

You most likely need to adjust the valve lash on a few of ur valves but I wouldn't reccomend doing so unless the motor has 150k+ miles.

ok all this bad info going around i just cant stand it anymore.

For one the SR20 is a hydrualic lifter motor. In other words it does not require valve lash adjustment. The lifters do it for you.

Two: the sr20 is known for being somewhat of a ticky motor.
Three: Basics that you can do is install a new timing chain tensioner with a updated one.
Four: If the noise is excessivly loud at all times then you probably have a bad lifter in that case it would require pulling the cams out and putting new lifters in and bleeding them when doing so.
Five take care of the motor and it will take care of you.

And further more the hondas have adjustable lashes on their valvetrain but they do not use hydraulic lifters the rockers have adjustments to close the lash after wear occurs.

Again if the noise is not excessively loud dont really even worry about it. Use good oil and a good filter, change at least the tensioner to keep chain noise to a miniumum. Good luck with the motor. All these replies and no good correct info. Search, Search, Search is your friend. There is probably 100 threads or more on this stuff.

reading the first few posts i just started to laugh lol.

like ashton said, no need to adjust the lifters because they are all hydrualic.
unless you have a gti-r, because i guess they have solid lifters

It's the blind leading the blind. I started to reply the other day, but it was too nasty to post, so I just shook my head and moved on.
