I decided to relocate this thread, sorry if its not in the right place...
Anyway, Nismo Chris confirmed my worst fears of rod knock, heres the link to the video if you'd like to see.
So heres the story,
This sucks hard, My dad gave me this 99 G20T NA A/T only last august when I got my license, I wish he told me it had oil leaks but This is totally my fault, I had no idea I should be checking oil so often. I was previously driving a 91 mustang LX which im painting as we speak so I can drive it tomorrow (I was going to put a 5.0L Turbo in it)
Now I guess I'll turbo swap the G, It's probably way more reliable anyway and it is alot nicer. Makes me greatfull I got the LX running in good shape when I did too! Maybe god was sending me a sign to turbo the G...
Anyways, I agree with your diagnosis whole heartedly and I've read that replacing the crank/bearings and potentialy others is very expensive, I assume this is also true.
On the note of my new project I have a few questions, if you have any tips or advice as well its appreciated...
If I bought a motor would it be best to clean all parts and replace all gaskets while its out, or is the original assembly worth keeping as is?
Ive seen some sr20 de's for around 400 and some are over 700 at tiger japan.
I would rather turbo swap while I'm at it, I've seen some for about $1000
I'll be on here for a while, I'll pick up an engine in the next few weeks, I hope you all look forward to my swap blog, I know I'll have alot of questions, I'll post alot of pictures and questions lol
Maybe someone can tell me whats involved as I've heard alot of upgrades are nessicary to turbo the DE, like new rods/pistons/exhaust/intakes/intercoolers
Does anyone have a checklist and also a torque list?
I know theres alot to do to turbo a non-turbo'd engine but can I drop in a DET instead or is a drivetrain or tranny upgrade required, I've also heard that you can break an axel on a front wheel drive if its turbo'd if you drive it too hard.
Any feedback appreciated.
