transmission wont sit flush on block?

if i can't get the transmission to sit flush on the block, would that be a clutch alignment issue? if i look at the transmission from the driver's side, the right side of the transmission is at least 1/2" away from the block. i tried to use the transmission bolts to pull the block and trans together, but i can only get the left side of the trans to sit flush. the right side always has at least 1/2" of gap...

no dude dont use the the bolts to pull her up this could snap the bell housing or strip the threads for the tranny bolt holes you have a serious alinement issue take the box off checks the female splines on the clutch plate and if there chewed use a hacksaw blade to clean them and put some copper grease on the male spline from the box not much *** just a bit re-aline your clutch the try the box back on get a friend to help no point in thinking your superman cause trust me this makes things more awkward the box should just slide on with ease any more problems just post back up mate

yeah i remember the last time i took my transmission off, it slid right back on with no problems. at that time, i did not take off the pressure plate/clutch disc though. this time around, i have a new motor, and i just put the disc/pressure plate on, and tried to align the disc as best as i could with a 1/2" socket extension. i probably should have wrapped some tape around it because it still wasn't big enough. crappy thing is that no shops in my area have a clutch alignment tool for sale. well, one shop has a "kit", but it goes for $80... no thanks.

yeah i'll be pulling the trans off and taking a look at the disc, i have a feeling the splines are crapped out from my trying to john wayne the transmission back on for 3+ hours... hope it's still ok enough to use though

Is this a different engine or transmission? If so, check that you don't have an extra dowel pin.

aww shiznit, never thought about the dowel pins, i just assumed it would be the same. the motor is different (currently installing ve motor), and i didn't quite pay attention to the difference in dowel pins, if there is any difference at least... i will check when i pull the transmission off again. thanks for the tip~!

yeah they should be the same size just located in different holes i.e. you might have one in the box and one in the block for the same hole that happend to me but it wasnt a problem i just pulled them out with mole grips and my engine was out so it wasnt as much as a pain in the arse lol
