exhaust backfiring and loss of idle

my sr20 is struggling to hold idel will sit on 1000rpm for alil drop to 700 and then stall , when driving drive ok but sounds a little bit odd and exhaust is excessivley poppy , it also sometimes back fires when down gearing , my air flow sensor came of the other night but i fixed it , could this have messed up my timing or air to fuel mixture any help would be greatley appreciated

ok so sorry well its a 1971 hillman hunter with and sr20det motor s14 transplant , it is running a little bit bigger boost but other than that it is stock s14 running gear ,

It sounds like you are getting way too much fuel. Coolant temp sensor maybe.

3" pipe straight through
duel fuel pumps with surge tank in boot
r31 brakes
