leaking/hissing battery

i just moved my battery to the trunk. i dont have any frayed wires, all my connections are good, and the battery has a good (and short) ground in the trunk. after the car runs for about 3-4 min the battery starts hissing, then leaking. same thing occured with both old (couldnt findthe name) and new (optima red top) battery. anyone have any ideas? thanks

The voltage regulation portion of your Alternator is probably messed up. You can check the voltage output of the Alternator with a Voltmeter across the battery terminals. In your case, as the battery is "Hissing / Venting", I'd place the Positive lead of the voltmeter on the battery, and find a point to Ground the Negative lead AWAY from the battery. With the car running, the Alternator is supposed to be regulated to a Maximum output of 14.7 VDC. Good Luck, Be Careful.

get it checked before your battery "melts down"

Wouldn't the hissing be hydrogen gas escaping into the atmosphere. Prob don't want that building up in the trunk. Kapow!

2(Al) + H2SO4 -> Al2SO4 + H2

Al2SO4 = mud.
