92 sentra se-r coolant leak help???

Hello 2 all.. Here is the situation im having with my b13..

Saturday, in about 100 degree weather w/ the a/c on level 2 and driving about 15 minutes, i start 2 see the needle climbing up from the normal position it sets, which is about 1/2 a quarter below the mid point. i instantly turn the a/c oFF and put on the heater. Needle starts to drop up to the normal point.

luckily i had reached my destination when i started to see the issue, no worries i shut the car off and ***'t inside for lunch. Came back out about 3 hours later, engine was still kinda hot, but not enough to blow coolant all over. took off the rad cap and it seem'd 2 be low on coolant. NO BIGGIE i thought *** i had a brand new NISSAN coolant jug in the trunk. toped it off and ***'t on and about my business back home. I left the car there and did not move it until the next day.

Sunday Morning, was going to head of 2 work i move the b13 and it comes to my attention that there is a dried up puddle on the right side of the engine bay, water pump side, on the floor. so i Poped the hood again, and Sure enough, Coolant is leaking from what it seems to be a "breather hole" on the water pump..?? further checking it, i see it had a small black little plug on the top of the water pump, where the "breather hole" is. i peeled it off and sure enough it looked old, dry rodded, and it had a small little slit in the middle. i checked out a newer 00 sentra sr20 we had here at the shop but it seems that this engine did not have that Plug, *** it did have the "breather hole" looking thing on the water pump just like my 92 sr20 does..

I called the dealership Monday to see if they had this so called plug thing for sale?? and they said they don't know what it can be, and also said if its on the water pump, that part should also sell with the water pump?

I personally haven't checked 100% if they sell that plug with the water pump or if it doesn't exist at all. all i know is that my sr20 had it. im not even sure if the owner before me just stuck a plug in there 2 fix this issue??? If anyone has any info on such a related issue, please help me out.

***, at this point it would be nice to change out the water pump since i don't know when the last time it was changed out, but i don't wan't 2 change it out and then find out it was a dumb little plug that was bad..

All or any info will be greatly appreciated.. I'll try 2 get pix up later on when i go home to further help anyones decision. Thank You for taking time to read on my problem!

I don't think there should be any such plug in that area. I've never seen one on a B13 anyways. Get yourself a new water pump and change it out.

Its not a breather valve, its called a weep hole that leaks when the bearings (or the seal)in the water pump go bad. You will have to replace the water pump (its a pain in the a$$)
