Long warm up and AAC Valve problems

93 B13 SE-R, two problems I'm facing:

- My car takes a while to warm up. It takes anywhere from 4-5 minutes in 90* weather to hit that "warmed up" spot in the middle of the temp gauge where the needle quits moving. I have:

1) changed the coolant and bled the system
2) changed the thermostat
3) changed the engine coolant temperature sensor (ECU sensor)

I'm not sure if that's normal for these old cars or not, and it wouldn't be so bad except I also have the following related problem:

- My car hesitates very badly at partial throttle and I think it's the Auxiliary Air Valve (based on what I read in this thread: http://www.sr20forum.com/general-sr2...s-startup.html). It feels like the car has about half the power it should (which is confirmed on my vacuum gauge, as it reads at about 8-10 when it should read between 16-20).

But, every time the temp gauge needle reaches that "warmed up" spot on the gauge, the power comes to life and feels like it normally should. It kicks on very noticeably, on the spot every time like clockwork.

Help? How do I get my car to warm up faster? Is it just a problem with the gauge or the sending unit to the gauge? I'm hesitant to replace my AAC because I'm not sure if the problem will stick around due to the long warm-up time.

My car was taking a long time to warm up on the dash gauge but in reality it was at operating temperature. My problem was the coolant temp sender to the dash, but I didn't have the hesitation problem you have.

thanks for the reply. I changed my sender sensor hoping that would help, but it still takes about 4-5 minutes to warm up.

I don't really mind the long warm up time, but since it seems to be directly related to the AAC valve and the drop in power it's a pain in the ass. any one else have any thoughts?

Anyone else have any thoughts on the long warm up?
I have a new thermostat, new engine coolant temp sensors (ECU and dash sender), coolant flush and bled the lines, and I'm not leaking coolant anywhere. Any ideas what else would cause it take so long to warm up?

Use ECUTalk or NissanDataScan with a Consult plug to see what the ECU coolant temp sensor is actually showing. The dash gauge is not very accurate.

Yes, it's Greg Amy's former car.
And yes, I've broken it...
