Which RWD engine to start with If you want to put a VVL head on later?

Ok Guys, Help me out here.

I found two different engines on eBay

First one is a S13

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT

Second one is a S14

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT

What is the major difference between a S13 and a S14 ?

Thanks Tom

the head is a lil differnt dealing with blow by and reserc also 14 trannys are stronger and geared a slight bit better and also the wireing harness conversion is a pain in the ass from 14 to 13 also gotta change the little wired thing on the back tranny that the drive shaft inserts into

oh 14 has a bit more power

Are you wanting a Turbo VE setup or an NA VE setup?

Consider the S13 or S14 SR20DE also. The cost is typically 750-1000 for a motor/tranny set. I don't see the S14 being an advantage as you are just going to pull the head anyways and your probably not going to stick with the S14 T28.

Also, the only real difference between the S13/S14 tranny is 5th gear, so nothing major to worry about there.

Yea aren't the s13 and s14 similar blocks, just the s13 head is highport and the s14 head is lowport? Either way it shouldn't matter if you're pulling the head off anyway.

S14 block has an extra oil feed for the VVT valve and sprocket, which might be a good thing for the VVL head, as you could tap that for the VVL oil feed.
