Air conditioning problem solved

Hey guys,

I thought I'd share my experience with air con in case any of you run into the same situation in the future. This is for my B13 NX SR20DE but probably effect most other models.

Recently I brought my reco'd compressor to my auto elec and had everything fitted again (since it was all taken out about a year ago) and once it was all gassed up and ready to go, the switch wouldnt turn the AC on. I could get the compressor working by bridging the relay in the engine bay manually to turn it on but there seemed to be a problem in the wiring from the compressor to the push button control inside the car.

My auto elec eventually found out that it was a transistor in the ECU. So I went to a wreckers and pulled a computer out of a N15, took the old one out and soldered back on the new one and now it works a treat.

Heres a photo of the transistor -

Just make sure the numbers on it are the same as the current ones. Mine was PU4424. Some ECU's have 2 or 3 so you can choose which one to take out as a replacement to the old one.

I'm posting this up because I know that my auto elec only went through all the trouble of diagnosing because I've known him for a while and he has a big account with us at our parts store. There's a lot of places that might just tell you to get another ECU and replace the whole thing, but like in my case, I just went to a self serve wreckers and picked one up for $40 even though there wasnt a single NX there I got it out of a N15 2.0l. So its good to just know that this MIGHT be the cause of not being able to control the AC from the cabin.
