What is this?

yes im a bit of a nub right now.. but im deleting things in my sr20 and was wondering what this is.

Hard to search for info on it when you dont know the name of it

Oil separator for the crank case vent on the block.

I see some people put a breather on the oil separator and then on the crank case

how does this effect it?(oil separator and valve/crank case)

Well, as it's name implies, it separates oil from the air being drawn from the crank case.

I wouldn't remove it, because it helps keep oil residue out of the intake.

Putting a breather on it wouldn't be the right choice, when the PCV valve is allowing a vacuum on the crank case, the air wouldn't be metered by the MAF sensor.
