For the past 6 months i have been braking my head over the set up that i would like to go with my SR20 (highport). I am set on the bottom end where i will go oversize on the pistons... but my problem right now is the head gear... I have searched on JWT for info about the cams but unfortunately cant fine what i was looking for.
I am looking for specific info on the cams like S1 is good for mid-range or poor in top end (note: this is an example i am not saying that this is true.) That kind of Info is very important to me when sellecting cams. It would be impossible for me to buy all JWT cams and test them out.
I am going for a C-series cams. I would like a overall performace of low-end, mid-range, and top-end this not only on the dyno but also on the street. Can anyone help me with this kind of info?
S1 and S2 are out of the picture since you will not find them anywhere anyway.
Your options are S3, S4 and S5 (none of them NEEDS springs & retainers).
or
C2, C3.
S3 have the most low-midrange and fall off after ~ 6800 rpm if I remember correctly.
S4 haveless low-midrange and fall off after ~ 7200 rpm if I remember correctly.
S5 even less midrange (low is probably out on those) and keep chugging until 7600 or more.
C2 are probably the best for your needs. Better than S4s from midrange and up, equal probably to them down low. Still, C-series are not exactly advertised as street-friendly.
Best bet is to actually serach and find dyno runs of those.
PS. How are the T1Rs on your car? Happy? And are the Superleggeras 15x7? What dimension is the tire?

Sup Chris,
Thnx for your insight in this matter bro, i really appreciate it. About the tires and wheels they are not in the car yet, still have to purchase them. I will be getting 16x7 and 205/40/R16 ... I will let you know as soon as they are under the car...
you may want to search threads started by CHOADERBOY in 2004. Basically, look for HS Gen6 testing, a thread with "woo hoo 200.4" in its title etc. He talks about large cams and how they behave when using a large header and exhaust. He compares directly S4 with S5 and throws in some C2-C3 with hius opinion on them.
As for the 16x7 dimension, just make sure it will not touch anywhere in the rear (either fender or the strut on the inside). They do fit but it may be close, especially if the tire is really wide.

Sup Chris,
In the 200.4 thread Mike has given me some advise on the cams and recommended C1's back then. But tis the knowledge behind it thats what i am after just like the way you have explained to me.... thnx for the search tip
As far as the wheels go .. i have 17x7 on now and i have noticed that on my car they are about 2 cm in the body compared to the front ones.. it looked odd at firts but i soon noticed that lots of nissans are like that... so all good

Ok guys here's another one .... Whats the deal with a smaller exhaust cam then the intake one .... and is there a rule of thumb how to apply this?
If you plan on going N/A then you might want to run a larger intake cam. Here is a example: people with lowport sr20's use the larger intake cam from 91-93 se-r's. So it might be possible to use a S3 intake and S2 exhaust cam's maybe even a S4 intake and S3 exhaust cam's. This is just my theory, I have never tried this myself. I do know that if you use a larger exhaust cam than intake cam, it would be bennifical for nitrous user's.

thnx for your reply i appreciate it...
i took it upon myself to contact JWT and ask them about this "bigger intake cam then the exhaust cam theory" and they advised against it ....

just curious as to where you heard that. my s4s pull hard all the way to 7750..
Trying to decide between S4s and S5s. With a JWT tune (7800 rpm cut, IIRC) on a lowport w/ IHE, is there any advantage of going w/ the S5s instead of the S4s?
I have read here that S4's are the way to go with a T25. How would S3's be on a T25 motor? What is the difference in the way the two act with a T25 and what is the difference in idle? My car has the Prothane mounts all around.
