HELP!!! knocking problems...

I have a 99 sentra sel auto and whenever i hit the gas hard or hit a bump i hear a loud sound coming from the rear of the car almost as if someone hit a body panel with their fist...my brother has a 2000 sentra se and he said it was the muffler hitting the chassis. Does anyone know what is going on or how to fix it?

see if the muffler is shaking then, then if so go to a muffler shop, let them weld some kind of hanger on it so it wont continue too shake

If its the muffler hitting the chassis, you need to look down at the brackets that support it, the welds on them may have been gone. This might be a good time for you to get an aftermarket exhaust . Other than that, I don't see what else there could be thats knocking like that (maybe the trunklid is open?). Something like this would need to be looked at, otherwise its all going to be guesswork. Have it looked at by a mechanic.

Check the rubber rings (hangers) before even go to the muffler shop. They wear out and sometimes come off. You can buy those rubber pieces from local parts store for cheap.

try something much simplier. Pull out the fuel from the fuel tank and refill it from other fuel station. Use the highest oktane gasoline.

Noob-talk again. What the heck is that going to do? I don't get it. The knocking sound he is talking about is coming from the trunk area, not from his engine. You think its the gas knocking the fuel tank? And how is removing gas from the fuel tank simpler than taking your head below the car and having a look at the rubber hangers or welds?
