Passenger side Axle install

Me and "SR20 Inside" were trying to install a new passenger side axle on his P10 G20t. For some reason, new Axle does not want to go all way in. It goes in almost allway, but stops 5mm before it is perfectly flush. Axle is hitting this piece of metal (see pic) inside the transmission, and it is not going in any farther. When I did mine, I didn't have this problem and axle went right in. Is there anyone here had this problem??
I'm pretty sure he got a right axle ('96 G20 5spd w/LSD, ABS).
Thanks
