Starter is clicking but motor won't crank over..INPUT NEEDED!

Whatsup fellas..well today we tried to run a compression test on a freshly built DET but the result was the engine won't crank. The spark plugs were pulled out, and the 2 fuel connections on the distributor cap were disconnected. So I get in the car, step on the clutch and turn the key and all i get is a loud click but not motor action whatsoever. Could this be an electrical problem? The battery is in the trunk so should we change the power wires? The jwt ecu was in the car, the battery off a sentra was used so it was a charged battery, maf wires weren't connected to the z32 maf...these are just details i'm listing for you guys to better help diagnose the situation. Suggestions are very much welcome! Thanks.

Jorge

Have you checked the battery to make sure it's good? Tap the starter with a hammer then see if it'll turn over.

I believe that means that the solenoid is good but the starter is bad. If you used the hammer on the starter it may work if not then take your starter to a shop and they will fix it. The common problem is these magnets that wear down and just need to be replaced if you can get these your self then that will save you like $65 the reason why I know is because I had the same problem.

the clicking has nothing to do with the starter that is the solenoid making the noise.

Neither, I had the same problem yesterday finishing my swap. The problem was my connection with the starter and the (self ground). for some reason it wasn't grounding properly so I added a washer on each side and sprayed some contact solution on both (-) and (+) connectors and it started right up.

Well after trying the hammer trick and adding washers to both sides of the ground we got the same results. So we decided to take the starter out and crank it again to see if the gear is even turning and it didn't budge...so we rush over to pep boys and got a brand new starter with a lifetime warranty..pop it in and nothing, same ole clicking. So we put the fuel pump fuse back in, connected the clips to the distributor cap, wires, plugs and tried to crank it again. Fuel pump is working at least but still the same damn click. Are there any fuses it can be?? any loose connections?..thanks for your help and suggestions everybody...keep em coming so we can finally get this beast moving.

Can you crank the motor over by hand?

Yes the motor is able to be cranked manually. The new starter turns out to be in working condition because when they tested it at pep boys the gear was spinning like it is supposed to. We are going to redo all the grounds in hopes that it will give the starter the proper amount of voltage needed to work.
