You spun a rod bearing? Is that what happened? Its been said a million times, but if the oil pan is crushed there will be problems. I beleive this to be the reason so many of these engines fail. The oil flow gets pinched off.

your engine light came on because you lost oil pressure, which was probabally due to a dented lower oil pan, the black one. Then you probablly spun a few bearings because you kept driving on it and shavings from these bearing ended up all over the inside of your motor, thus causing the damabe to your cams. Either that, or just got a bad motor. I've gotten a bad one before. That is why you should always take the time to go over the inside of these engines before installing them. take it apart and replace the bearings and buy a new lower oil pan for it. good luck.
