Its REAL bad. I can't believe its just missing like that. Hope you weren't driving it around without the tensioner on.

Putting one in is real easy, here are basic instructions for that: http://www.se-r.net/zotz/se-r_tensioner.htm. You can order a tensioner from Greg Vogel at Mossy Nissan (http://www.mossyperformance.com).

Umm...are you serious? I didn't think that would be possible (I dont know why.) Hey...maybe you should look again. And yes, installing the tensioner is easy. Heh!!

WHAT? Do you know what a timing chain tensioner is or where it is on the engine? If not...

...please step away from the car, step away from the car and put the tools down.

If you had no tensioner, there would be a huge hole in the engine spewing oil all over the place and the engine would seize up from lack of oil.

Please explain in more detail as what the issue is and how you came to the conclusion the tensioner is gone.

I'm with him ^^^^

If you're car was missing the tensioner there is no way that you would be able to drive it without something really bad happening to your motor.

Please get a second opinion

NismoPC is right on the bull's eye. You would have had a JDM swap by now if you don't have a timing chain tensioner. See for yourself if it is there, its not hard to tell.

you have not been driving around without a tensioner, your bearings would be wiped from lack of oil if the car ran long enough without bending valves which i don't think it would even do, maybe they said you need a new one?

No no no guys,
he has a timing chain tensioner, the bracket piece that goes over the cam gears is what is missing. I am sorry I dont know what it is called since it is so late and I cant see the monitor to well with my eyes shutting on me. But that is what he is missing.

He is missing the upper chain guide. Don't 1998 SE-R's come from the factory without one?

i think he might be fine without that, my 98 motor doesn't have one but i'm not sure if any changes were made to compensate, although i don't think so

I have a 99 se-l and my upper timing chain guide is gone. But the problem with mine is that it bounces up and down when i crank the car. Does that mean my timin chain is bad and i have to replace it or do i just need to check the timing chain tensioner?

I just put in a high-port intake cam earlier tonight on my 98, there was no chain guide. Still had the taps in the head to mount one, but no chain guide.
