Tuner shop cam install price?

What would be a fair charge for a local mechanic to install 91 cams in my 97? Engine internals are something I dont mess with, but i wanna make sure they dont shaft me on labor charges. 2 hours?

It could take anywhere between an hour to two hours, depending on how good the mechanic is.

Flat rate on one cam is 2.8 hrs, 2 cams is 3.8hrs , so 2.8 x $70 is $196 plus a new VC gasket unless you have one already .... I charge 2 hours for a basic cam swap in the SR's , if its just a in and out and I dont have to do any other seting up ... so about $140 ....

Man I can't see it taking anywhere near 3.8hrs. But of course that is what mechanics flat rate is. That is why I along with everyone else try to save a buck and learn how to work on our cars ourselves. But for 150.00 I think is worth a cam install if you don't know what you are doing.

That's a really good price. Last time I was shopping around, all the shops charge at the very least $150. So I decide to just do it myself. If you live around there, you should take up his offer. I don't really trust the shops to know much about my car. Rather have a real ethusiast do it.

Or take it to a shop with "Enthusiasts" working there .... I will admit , I have seen alot of scarry things come out of shops, but its good to find a good one that has people that enjoy what they do and like working on cars like ours !! ...

im in college. I'm not a mechanic, and i'm not studying to be one either. i'll be the first to admit my limited mechanical skills, and that I dont have the time, money, or place to have to do things twice because i fu*ked it up the first time trying to do it myself. i've learned this lesson from other enthusiasts as well as myself-if its beyond your ability, get someone who knows something to help.
