Automatic Alternator Replacement

Little tip for the auto owners. If you have to change your alternator get ready for some fun. The problem lies in the fact our power stearing pump's coolent lines run right over the area where the alternator needs to come out of. So to remove/replace it you have to remove the front motor mount and jack up that side of the engine about an inch to 2 inches to get enough clearance.

Also remember to hook up all wires before you bolt it back into place. if not, you will be fighting with it for an hour or so...dont ask how I know.

How could lines that run in front of the radiator impede you from taking the alternator out? I've had to change alternators three times on my b13s and the best trick I've learned is to disconnect the radiator hose. It's a bitch because you gotta have something below to catch the coolant spill, but after it's done you can wiggle the alternator (albeit not easily) between the fender and the radiator hose, at the front of the engine.

cause i didnt want to remove the radiator hose. that introduces another hours work into it by having to refill and bleed the cooling system. by moving the overflow bottle out of the way, remove its mount, and remove the uppper alternator mount you can normaly get the alternator out by pulling it between the upper radiator hose and the frame rail. With the auto the power steering lines are ran right on top of the frame rail inboard of the coolent overflow bottle. they are about an inch to inch and a half tall. which takes up almost all your space you need. if your mounts are bad, which obviously mine are, and your motor sits low, you will have to jack up the engine. but i had to lift over 2 inches to get enough room no matter how i turned the alternator. If it wasnt for that stupid ground screw it would have taken me a total of 2 hours , even going to buy the thing and waiting to get my old one tested, from removal to install. Started little after 10, got done at 1. worked straight, but that ground screw took up better part of 45 mins or more
