I installed the JDM motor about 2 weeks ago, I have only driven twice since the install, I had to fix a axle leak. upon cranking it startsis smoking. The smoke is white and shoots out like a flame at start. Once the car idles for a while or I drive it the smokes comes out a lot more like a cloud. I drove for a good 20 minutes the 2 times I drove it. The oil level is good, the coolant does not have any oil in it and the oil does doesn't have any water/coolant in it. The temperature stays right in the middle. I put in Mobil 10-30w to break the car in with. Can some please give, me some things to check or do.
If it only smokes on start up its probally your valve guide seals, if it keeps on going after start up, probally rings. To get a lil more specific w/it, do a compression test, and if your in acceptable range, do a leakdown. compression will test your rings and leakdown will test your valve seating, guide seals to kinda simplify it. but unfortunately you gotta start diggging there.
2. The temperature gauge is playing games. I let the car idle with the front jacked up to make sure there was no air in the system. Then I drove on the highway for about 60 minutes (the company that I bought the engine said they put wd-40 in the combustion chamber to protect the internals while the engine sits and I had to drive for like an hour to get it all out) So I drove about 30 minutes and notice my gas needle dropped from 1/4 to E so I went to fill up. As soon as I stopped at the gas station the temperature needle starts to rise slightly. I filled up and start to drive off. Right when I got back on the highway the needle goes up more. I pull over and let it cool down. I started it back up the needle rose a little, I turned the heat on full and temperture dipped right below the halfway mark and stayed like that until I got home about 30 minutes away.
my sr20det would overheat if I came to a stop after running warmed up (IE. IT would over heat in the time it took for a redlight to turn green) I had two fans on my radiator, so I just ran them to a switch in the cabin so I could turn them both on all the time. No more overheating problems. If you're using the USDM ecu, I think you have to swap over a USDM coolant temp sensor, otherwise your guage will show its overheating when its not really.
Ive heard the same thing about the temp sensr. Im gettin ready to put a jdm motr in so i cant confirm. but if u have your old temp sensor, try that. and as far as the gas out of the tail pipe, after you fix the overheat problem try to just drive it really hard and clear it out. jsut suggestions
