Newbie Timing Question

Alright...no flaming please! I have done a lot of stuff with cars but the one thing I've never ever done is check timing. How exactly do I do that? I have a timing light and I wanted to check the timing for my turbo setup.

When I figure out how to do it what exactly should it be at for a turbo setup. I've seen between 13 and 15. Is that accurate?

Sorry for the very simple question. Thanks.

-Erik

I've tried that, no one tells exactly how to use a timing light. I will try again though.

you should point the timing light at the crank pulley then there should be a little pin above the crank pulley and small lines that indicate where its set at

I figured it out now. It was kind of dark when I was doing it and I got a flashlight and found the little pointer pin thing. I will try and use the light tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

Remember ya have to have the ECU in timing mode. Go to www.se-r.net and search for the info.

I found the timing mode instructions on se-r.net. Is there any way to tell you have the car in timing mode? I've seen a lot of posts that people have had trouble getting the ECU into timing mode.

Put it in timing mode like it says. If the marks on the pulley are jumping around it ain't there. Oh and set the base idle first. Around 800 rpm or so.

Alright, if the marks aren't moving then I got it right. I will try it either today or tomorrow. Thanks again.

Golly, I would have answered differently if you had clearly stated your question. I read you first post to mean you wanted someone to post (again) how to set timing on an SE-R.

I just want the guy to know he needs to read twice, post once if he wants good help. As I said, his first post was quite misleading as to what he wanted.
