Never really thought about it. I would probably try to pull over somewhere where there are no puddles. What if you are forced to drive through the water? Should you just pop the hood really quick, grab a flat screwdriver, and simply disconect the CAI extension pipe leaving an open/filterless pipe?
this is one reason why i dont like the idea of running a cai. im not down with hydrolocking my engine i spent so much time swapping into my car. ill take my ebay wai over a cai anyday

Convert it to an intake/SRI for the winter till the rain lets off... I know that's what the CAI owners are doing here in Vancouver Canada. Better to be safe IMO.

Me too...as long as your splash guard is not modified or cut up for any reason, you shouldn't have an issue with water. One of my buddies here in Roanoke has a 97 SE-R w/ a CAI, and he's missing basically the entire lower half of his splash guard. His filter is fully exposed. Plus, he's missing foglights, so it's even worse. Once he ran through a big puddle, and got water in his MAF. We disconnected the intake assy, poured the water out of the MAF, and he was golden again. Lucky him, huh?
Bottom line is this: if your splash guard isn't cut up, you should be alright. Just keep it in mind and dont go through big puddles if you don't have to.

you shouldn't have any probs with the splash guards in place, just don't be stupid - if you're going to hit a big puddle, take your foot of the gas - and don't drive in the left lane when there's concrete barriers to puddle up the water. No probs with mine or my 2 buds, even in Minnesota weather
there is an aem bypass u can buy for this problem... also u have to suck a lot of water to hydro lock. u have to basically fill the pipe with water and suck it all up. i would not worry but if u are worried then get a aem bypass for your car......
