CAI: What to do when it is raining cats and dogs?

Never really thought about it. I would probably try to pull over somewhere where there are no puddles. What if you are forced to drive through the water? Should you just pop the hood really quick, grab a flat screwdriver, and simply disconect the CAI extension pipe leaving an open/filterless pipe?

either don't hit large amounts of water, or like you said.. disconnect the extension and run like that for a little..

i never really thought about that but it would work.

ive been through some crazy rain storms and haven't had a problem

I went through some DEEP puddles and thought I'd get hydrolocked, but somehow got lucky. Never had a problem, just some near misses.

Convert it to an intake/SRI for the winter till the rain lets off... I know that's what the CAI owners are doing here in Vancouver Canada. Better to be safe IMO.

Me too...as long as your splash guard is not modified or cut up for any reason, you shouldn't have an issue with water. One of my buddies here in Roanoke has a 97 SE-R w/ a CAI, and he's missing basically the entire lower half of his splash guard. His filter is fully exposed. Plus, he's missing foglights, so it's even worse. Once he ran through a big puddle, and got water in his MAF. We disconnected the intake assy, poured the water out of the MAF, and he was golden again. Lucky him, huh?

Bottom line is this: if your splash guard isn't cut up, you should be alright. Just keep it in mind and dont go through big puddles if you don't have to.

I too never had a problem. My splash guards are on. And it rained heavy today. Just do not drive thru bumper high water!

After almost five years of having an CAI, I can honestly say that I have never removed it because of rain.

That said, just be sure not to try being the U-Boat captain and go running into large deep puddles.

you shouldn't have any probs with the splash guards in place, just don't be stupid - if you're going to hit a big puddle, take your foot of the gas - and don't drive in the left lane when there's concrete barriers to puddle up the water. No probs with mine or my 2 buds, even in Minnesota weather

there is an aem bypass u can buy for this problem... also u have to suck a lot of water to hydro lock. u have to basically fill the pipe with water and suck it all up. i would not worry but if u are worried then get a aem bypass for your car......
