Today I went to get my first oil change after my jdm swap, the local oil change spot was not able to take off my engine oil drain plug(jdm). What type of wrench would take it off? Also, will the standard U.S. drain plug be able to replace it?

yeah that is freakin ridiculous, how could they not get it out??? it is a shop, even if it were stripped, i don't see why they couldn't fix it. don't go back there, find a new shop or do it yourself

I agree with everyone here. I don't see how its tough to remove a 14mm bolt, or anything as simple as an oil drain plug for that matter. Do it yourself and save it from a dumass shop trying to figure out a simple thing as this.

Ok, I took to another quick lube oil change center and they said the same thing "We don't have the required tool for the drain plug", I told them they can just use vise grips, but their not allowed to service a car if they dont have the right tool. It policy for these quick lube places, so now I understand. I will take pics tomorrow of the drain plug, and will just do the oil change myself.
Ok, last night I went ahead and changed the oil myself(Easy, thanks guys!)... The drain plug required a 22mm socket, which is larger then our lug nuts, being that my four way wrench didnt even have the correct size for it(17,19,21,23), I used pliers. Im trying to show pics of the drain plug but my dads camera is cheap and mines is broke. Soon pics will be up. Thanks again!
OMG they didnt have a 22mm????? I managed a jiffy lube and of all the tools we didnt have(lol missing in action) we had like 4-5 22mm on up to 36 mm for some VW's. The new Cavys, and Saturns have a 32mm plastic cover over the oil filter(it's an internal filter inside the motor) They were full of sh*t and didnt want to work on it.

yeah they have to have a 22mm socket or wrench at least. you have got to be kidding me. never go there again. yea sakerocket i know what you are talking about with the new cavaliers and saturn's...that ecotec motor sounds like junk to me even when brand freakin new. i kinda don't like the filter idea but the fact that it is right on top is pretty nice. alot of newer cars seem to be going to this style. the place should have had the tool, keep away
A lot of Volvo, BMW, Mercedes, etc use internal filters. they are an old idea, and they work good. My grandfather transports cars for dealers, and he took a saturn one day for a 300mile trip. Whoever did the oilchange on it overtourqued the cap, and with the heat it cracked in to two pieces. Chevy didnt have one neither did saturn. lol
lol, thats because they aren't supposed to break, i like the internal filter idea, i just don't like the plastic idea, i haven't seen any crack yet but thats what i imagined would happen
