checking for LSD on a japanese tranny

I've done a ton of searching and I keep reading that I need to either put axles in the tranny and spin them or look for the tranny code to tell me if this transmission from japan has a Limited Slip Diff. I'm hoping that you guys can help me out with another solution though because I don't have a tranny code and since I don't own the tranny or spare sr20 axles i can't check for the LSD those ways. Is there something I should be looking for on the outside of the case to tell if this transmission has a LSD? Is there a bulge? If so, where? Thanks

Chris

there is a bulge on the drivers side...thats why lsd trannies need shorter axles. Also make sure your jdm tranny is cable operated and the spline shaft is the correct size.

Best way is to look at the axle seals, the lh one is bigger than the lh if it is an lsd, like the standard one is about 65mm dia, and the lsd is more like 100mm dia, its pretty noticable once you know what to look for.

If it is a VLSD SR20DE manual tranny, the code printed on the case ends always in a V.

Non-VLSD manual always ends in an A.
