Knock sensor prob?

Well, tonight my boyfriend and I went to advance my timing to 17. I had just recently brought it back to stock b/c of a strong pulsating idle that started happening after I did my highport cam install.

However, tonight when watching the timing, it was jumping all over the place. Basically if you were standing by the right wheel looking into the engine bay, the marker was going from the triple mark, to the double mark on the left of it (retarding?), with this happening rapidly back and forth, and all over the place. This seemed to be occuring at the same beat at my messed up pulsating engine.

So Raene suggested that it may be my knock sensor, but first I should put a tank of highest grade gas into my car.

Anyone know what's going on here?

Sounds like the ECU isn't locked in timing mode. Make shure to set the base idle first. www.se-r.net has directions. I don't think it's your knock sensor.

I'm with James on this one. You need to set the ECU in timing mode first before you do this. I think that's why you see the marks jumping around like that.

YUp, your not getting it set into timing mode. Try the procedure again paying close attention to each step. It should work fine even with the '91 cams.
