No luck at home depot, eh Jeff?

Jeff is using a Sawzall to cutt the hardened steel bolts that are holding his rear control arms in. They will not pull or pound out for anything. I even tried using a drill out kit... no luck. If he can get the bolt cut, he can get his bent control arms off and be a whole lot closer to having his car back on the road.

The bolt spins, but is slightly bent so it will not pull out... thus the need to cut them.

Somebody out there has got to know what kind of blade will cut through the bolts... please. He's busting his ass and this is the one thing that is holding him up.

Later,
Mark

Get a WHOLE bunch of those dremel rotary cutoff wheels and keep swapping them in until you cut that thing off... Best if you have the Dremel at high speed and cut a little bit at a time!

Die grinder and a cutoff wheel will cut anything.

That would be my recomendation as well. If your still having trouble, heat that bolt up red hot and let it cool slowly, that will take the temper out of the bolt and make it softer.

I don't think it's possible to use the Dremel, not enough room and that's with the extension. You have to remember how small the dremel and it's wheels are and it's not aligned to go after a bolt in that position. Also, there is no way, even with my more powerful dewalt tool that it will ever cut through that bolt... it's not made for that.

Heating the bolt red hot to change the temper is a good idea... except it's still on the car. I'd be extremely worried about something else getting over heated.

Did you try heat? I know ive mentioned this before but i have done this before and many other things that seem impossible to come loose free up very well with heat.

You can get a carbide hack saw blade (cheap) and cut it with tin snips to fit in the sawsall. I used this trick to cut the hardened rear spring shackle bolts in my 64 1/2 Mustang.
