Water Temp

I just ordered a Greddy Water Temp Gauge and all that -ish but i need to know what in Celcius (sp) is considered normal operating temp and whats considered overheating. I bought this to match my other gauges and for *** fact that my stock one is acting stupid. Any help would be great.

100 degrees Celcius=212 F which is when your fans should kick on.

So 80-85 Celcius would be 180-195 which would be normal. + or - a few degrees.

It depends where you are getting the reading from. If you are getting it from the stock location then 220F+ is too hot. I know the fans kick on at 212 and that is not that much higher but the car is not moving when you hit 212 and that is why the fans are needed. On the track if you are moving and hitting 220+ you need to do something like turn your heater on or stop pushing so hard. My friend has hit 230 at the stock location and been ok but that is really high. If you are reading the numbers from the upper radiator hose you can add 10F to the numbers. You (the man that bought a Celcius gauge) can convert the numbers to Celcius yourself.

Yeah i bought a in-line radiator hose adapter for an extra $17 that way i can just cut the hose and put that in there with two hose clamps. I'll probably place it in the lower radiator hose by the thermostat. But who knows.... Thanks for the help. now i know that 80-90*C is about right and 100*C is where the fans need to be. Thanks i appricate it.

°C temp x1.8 +32°=°F temp.

Or real quick, it's double it and add thirty.

If you stick it in the lower hose you wont know anything. The fluid will be cooled already. Upper hose is the only place to put it.

And again....That is the lower hose and the wrong place to get the temps from. You are measuring the temp of the water after it has been cooled.

If it is reading wrong I have some serious issues if my car runs 190-195 after being cooled.

Right now I'm seeing 180-185ºF while cruising. If I'm stopped (like there's an accident on the way home and the freeway turns into a parking lot with street signs) then it'll go as high as 210 or so. But it also really just depends, with the DET I'm sure you'll be a bit higher than I am, but right now while it's cool out, the cooling system isn't being used all that hard. It's takes quite a while in the morning for my system to warm up, and it's really not even that cold out either

You'll also realize how innacurate the stock gauge is, your water temp will vary quite a bit and the stock gauge never moves...

Exactly. It might as well be a idiot light.

We'll see how hot the DET runs after some slim fans and a different radiator. I think i'll be just fine.
